MPINCC Perspective (Meeeting Professionals International, Northern California Chapter) My MPI - Janet Rudolph By Lynn Johnson, CMP What is Murder on the Menu? We have been providing customized interactive murder mysteries and team-building events for over 23 years. All of our events are customized for the client to include the client's goals and objectives, and the company's message and vision in a lighthearted way. We utilize the very best actors, AV, directors and coordinators, and I write all the mysteries. They're fair play, and participants can solve them if they're paying attention. But, the most important thing is that guests are having fun. We also partner with major and boutique hotels to showcase their specific properties. We have a different type of murder mystery event for this called the Clue Game that showcases the venue by taking clients through the different rooms and venues used for meetings or events. Each room has a clue character that leads them to the next room and ultimately to solving the mystery while learning about the property and all it has to offer. This is great for new property openings as well as client appreciation events. Our other division, TeamBuilding Unlimited, offers customized team building and team challenging programs that support a common message. We have Scavenger Quests, Wacky Games, Chocolate Tastings and more! What is your role at Murder on the Menu? I am the writer. Also, as owner of the company, I'm in charge of all sales and marketing efforts. Why did you join MPI? I've been a member of MPINCC for about 15 years. I joined because others in the industry told me it was a great organization. It's also my major networking and marketing vehicle. People know me because of my association with MPI it opens doors to companies that otherwise would be closed. What advice do you have for others considering MPI membership? Join, but it's not enough to join. You have to go to the educational programs and get involved in the committees. Through my committee involvement, I have made not only valuable business relationships but great friends. How has your MPI involvement contributed to your success at Murder on the Menu? The educational programs have provided valuable, useful information and new ideas that I have incorporated into my business. Also, some planners will only hire vendors who are members of MPI. Just this year, Murder on the Menu completed a major event for the Atlanta-based Destination South. The planner for this company only considered companies that were MPI members ... so that business was a direct result of being an MPI member. In one word, how would you describe your MPI experience? Terrific! More about Janet: Janet is known as the "Mistress of Mystery" for a good reason. She is director of Mystery Readers International, a teacher of mystery fiction, the editor of Mystery Readers Journal, a member of Mystery Writers of America, the International Association of Crime Writers, the British Crime Writers Association, Sisters in Crime and the American Crime Writers League.
